This past weekend the Abu Dhabi Professional Jiu-Jitsu League held it’s East Coast trials in New York City. Among the competitors from Paramount BJJ/Team Lloyd Irvin were the father and son team of Ed and Erik Westermark. Both Ed and Erik took home Gold in their respective divisions.
In his first round match Ed landed his signature “fireman’s carry” throw and then controlled the action on the ground, taking his opponent’s back and nearly sinking the choke. Time expired, and Ed won 6-0.
In the Final, Ed once again dominated from the top. He passed the guard twice and attacked with chokes, again winning 6-0 and capturing the Gold medal and 2012 Pro Trials Championship.
Ed’s son, 12 year old orange belt Erik Westermark, won his juvenile division with a quick triangle choke submission. Ed and Erik have made history, as Paramount BJJ‘s first ever father/son Gold medalists at an International Tournament. Stay tuned for video!
Team Lloyd Irvin (comprised of Paramount BJJ, BJJ United and more) went on to win the Overall Team Championship for the event, beating out Alliance, Renzo Gracie, and Gracie Barra among others.
