A small team from Paramount BJJ headed out to Las Vegas this past weekend for the biggest and toughest Masters (30+) Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in the world.
In the past, we’ve had 3 medalists:
- Greg Hagner (Silver)
- Abi Durrant, (2 Silvers), and
- Ed Westermark (Silver & Bronze).
This year we had our first ever Gold medalist at a World Championship!
Abi Durrant defeated 3 opponents for Gold in the featherweight division. But she wasn’t done there- She then beat 4 more opponents in the open-weight division for Double Gold, the biggest accomplishment a competitor can achieve.
New blue belt Matt Matalavage came away from his first major tournament with a Silver medal. He defeated 3 opponents before losing by a razor thin margin in the final. A very impressive debut on the world stage.
