Boston Summer Open Results | BJJ in Downingtown PA

The 2014 IBJJF Boston Summer Open came to a conclusion this past Saturday, and it was quite an event. Despite consistently impressive performances in past events, this would be the best team achievement yet from Paramount Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

Individual Results:

  • Phil Mento (blue belt adult): Gold at middleweight, Silver in Open weight
  • Greg Hagner (blue belt master 2): Gold at super-heavyweight, Bronze in Open
  • Ed Westermark (purple belt master 4): Gold at middleweight, Gold in the Open
  • Scott Cook (purple belt master): Gold at middle-heavyweight, Silver in Open
  • Kevin MacMullen (brown belt master): Silver in Open weight
  • Ian Murphy (white belt adult): Gold in Super-heavyweght
  • Abi Durrant (white belt adult): Silver in featherweight

Competitor Stats:

  • Phil Mento won 8 matches altogether on Saturday.
  • In only his second IBJJF event at blue belt, Greg Hagner took Gold in his division and Bronze in the open weight.
  • Ed Westermark became the first ever Paramount BJJ competitor to win double Gold twice at two separate IBJJF tournaments.
  • Scott Cook now has an 80% submission rate, he’s fought 10 matches in the last two months and only 2 opponents lasted the full 6 minutes.
  • In his first two tournaments at brown belt Kevin MacMullen has now won Gold and Silver. In both events he landed the tomoe nage sweep to full mount.
  • Ian Murphy submitted both of his opponents for his first IBJJF Gold medal.
  • With less than a year of training, Abi Durrant has competed in 6 tournaments and has 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 3 Bronze. She has medalled at all 4 IBJJF events she’s entered.
