This weekend Paramount BJJ had competitors in Atlanta at the IBJJF Atlanta Winter Open as well as right here in PA at the NAGA Philadelphia Championships. Check out the results below:

Atlanta Open

  • Jocelynn Palmer made her blue belt debut, having been promoted just over a month ago, and after submitting her first two opponents reached the medal rounds. She finished with a Bronze medal.
  • Abi Pacinelli earned Gold in both her weight class and the Absolute division, winning all four matches via submission
  • Phil Mento has been a brown belt for about 9 months and has won or medaled at every tournament tournament he’s entered. This one was no different, and after submitted his opponent in the semi-final he ended the day with a Silver medal.

NAGA

  • Ted Miller kicked off the competition season a few weeks ago by dominating his opponents at the MLU tournament to grab the first Gold of the year, and at the NAGA he once again took the top of the podium in the gi division. In the no-gi division he earned a Silver medal.
  • Rob Nirenberg is another new blue belt, promoted in December, and he’s already captured his first Gold medal at the new belt.
  • Tyler Johnson earned a Bronze medal in his first competition outside of the in-house events. After losing in the semi-finals he bounced back with a big victory in the match for 3rd.

There are many more tournaments on the horizon, including the IBJJF events in DC and NY- the most prestigious regional competitions. Students interested in competing should speak to head instructor Brad Court to help decide which tournaments are the best for them.
