Paramount BJJ In-House Tournament Schedule & Rules

See below for the schedule and more information regarding this Saturday’s tournament at Paramount Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Schedule:

  • 9:00am – Weigh-ins begin
  • 9:45am – Rules meeting
  • 10:00am – Weigh-ins for children end
  • 10:00am – Children’s matches begin
  • 12:00pm – Weigh-ins for teens and adults end
  • 12:00pm – Teen and Adult matches begin

Match Lengths:

  • Children – 4 minutes
  • Teens – 4 minutes
  • Adult white belts – 5 minutes
  • Adults blue belts – 6 minutes

Point system:

  • Takedown/throw – 2 points
  • Sweep (reversal using guard) – 2 points
  • Knee on stomach – 2 points
  • Guard pass – 3 points
  • Mount position – 4 points
  • Back position (with hooks) – 4 points

Ways to win:

  • Submission
  • Points (positions must be held for at least 3 seconds in order to receive points)
  • Advantages (advantages are given for near submissions or near scores and serve as tie-breakers)
  • Referee decision (in the event of a tie on points and advantages the ref will make a decision based on the aggressor)

Illegal techniques:

  • No strikes*
  • No slamming from guard*
  • Fleeing the mat while in a submission*
  • No reaping the knee
  • No cervical locks (“neck cranks”)
  • No wristlocks for children or teens
  • No leg locks for children; only straight footlocks for teens and adults
  • Grabbing inside opponent’s sleeves or pant legs

*Violation of these rules will result in an automatic disqualification. All other violations will result in a warning, then negative advantage, then 2 point deduction, and finally DQ.

Divisions:

  • Children and teens will be separated by age, weight, and skill level. A
  • dults will be separated by belt rank and weight.
  • Children’s and teens divisions are double elimination, so each competitor will receive at least two matches.
  • Adults will be single elimination, but they will be automatically entered into the open division.
  • There will be 2 open divisions for adults, <175lbs and 175lbs+.
